I’ve been waiting months for this one. Winter in the Shire, a busy business, awaiting and the arrival of a brand new grandbaby have proven to be a problematic combination for adventuring as of late. But here we are.
The Foundry.
The Foundry is the largest certified farm to table restaurant in New Hampshire. That alone screams for a must visit. They also have a Sunday Brunch buffet that boasts fresh oysters. You heard me. Oysters for brunch. I had to go.
First things first, when you plan your trip to The Foundry, and you will, be sure to call for reservations. I mean days in advance. We did not anticipate needing a reservation for 10am when they opened, but were lucky enough to find room in the bar. Had we been just a few short minutes later we would have not been so lucky. This place fills up fast.
The following weekend when we went back…. Yes, we made the hour plus drive again the following weekend. It is THAT good. …the Mister called 2 days in advance to get a reservation and they were already fully booked. I’m telling you. This buffet is insane. And I despise a buffet. Old food sitting under heat lamps being touched by countless people. No. Just no. But this one is totally different.
Again, we were lucky to get the very last spot in the bar.
First you start with your typical breakfast food. Scramble eggs, local thick cut bacon, local sausages, french toast that is a cross between thick Texas toast and fried dough. And the fresh whipped cream. Oh-em-gee. Soon though you discover things like barbecue ribs, chicken wings, macaroni and cheese, cinnamon rolls.
Then there they are. One whole table of fresh shucked oysters and shrimp cocktail. Our second visit I just started there. And the smoked salmon. Oh, my. Probably the best I have had. And I smoke my own salmon. They didn’t forget the capers, onions or chopped eggs either.
You could probably stop right there, but they didn’t. Nope. Keep going and you discover biscuits and gravy, clam cakes, roast beef sliced for you, fruit salad, pasta salad and an omelette station with basically anything you could imagine.
But that’s not all. Keep going for the fresh fruit, cake pops, handmade doughnuts and countless other cookies, cakes and sweets. It. Is. INSANE.
I haven’t covered nearly all of the dishes you will find at The Foundry’s Sunday brunch. They add new dishes each week, too. We haven’t been for dinner yet, but I am positive it’s even better. Did I mention everything is fresh and local? Yeah. That.
The drinks are incredibly good as well. You have to try the Pineapple Raspberry Mimosa. The Bloody Mary was delightful. The coffee and Baileys was huge and just right.
People go to The Foundry to linger. Families gather, friends laugh, the staff is wonderful. And those chefs! My goodness. You really don’t want to leave.
I did not get a ton of photos either visit. The very worst part of this whole food blog business is being that weirdo with their phone out taking pictures of their plates. It’s embarrassing and I usually hide my photo taking, looking over my shoulder to be sure no one is looking. Sometimes I just skip it all together. Other times, like at The Foundry, I am just too excited to dig in to even think about taking a picture.
You can have a peek at their website where you can also see their menu or their instagram page where you will be amazed at what comes out of that kitchen. Or just take our word for it and head to Manchester.
